| Tips & Techniques 2: Coloring Tulips |
I find that a visual breakdown of how an image is colored can really help to develop the
process of layering color. This is a quick sample.
|
| |
| Step 1 - Margin, leaves and background |
| With your Chartreuse pencil, quickly lay in the green on the outer margin, leaves and between the flowers. Use Ginger Root for the background. |
|
| |
| Step 2 - Enhance leaves and more background work |
| Use Lime Green on part of the leaves and about 1/2 way up behind the leaves (use a light touch). Add a bit of Lime Green to two corners of the green margin. With Hot Pink, color the inner margin as desired. Apply a medium heavy layer to half of the pot fading out toward the center. Color a random selection of tulips. |
|
| |
| Step 3 - Punch up the pot and leaves |
Add a little Process Red to the edge of the pot to make it pop. Color in a few more tulips. |
|
| |
| Step 4 - Finish the tulips |
With Scarlet Lake, color in the remaining tulips. |
|
| |
Step 5 - Finishing touches |
To anchor the flower to the pot, add a bit of Dark Green in the spacer between the flowers and leaves. Be sure to leave some of the lighter green exposed near the top and sides. Layer with scraps of complimentary colors and your image is done.
Note: These tulips look great in yellow's with a french blue pot...assorted colors of flowers and a zippy lime green pot.
Have fun!
