Vee Snyder

Vee-1

I met Venita (Vee to her pal's) when I lived in the Pacific Northwest. We quickly became friends who shared a love of paper crafts, snowman Christmas ornaments and local craft shows where we learned to "Only look on one side of the aisles!"

Vee is a talented watercolor artist, an avid garderner and bird nest collector who has been known to bring a rock home just because it was a really nice rock. Her zest for life makes her a pleasure to be around.

The sachets, made from her garden lavender, are one of her latest creations. Enjoy!

Lavender Sachet Bags

To create the sachets, you will need the following supplies.

  • Lightweight muslin material
  • Rubber stamps #2051 and #2106, from the Lockhart Stamp Company
  • Color pencils in greens and lavenders, Burnt Ochre for the flower pot, gray for the plant maker and Process Red for the bow
  • Buttons
  • Sewing machine
  • Dried lavender

Small Bag:

  • Tear a strip of muslin 11 1/2" long by 4" wide for the bag.
  • Tear another another piece of muslin 3" long by 2 1/2" wide. You will stamp on this piece.
  • Stamp your image on the 3" by 2 1/2" piece of muslin. You may want to practice on spare pieces of muslin until you get the image to your satisfaction.
  • Color the image.
  • Fringe all edges of the muslin.
  • Fringe both sides (11 1/2" long) of the large piece of muslin.
  • Fringe the bottom (4" long) of the large piece of muslin.
  • Turn the un-fringed end of the bag under, about 1/4" and sew (hem).
  • Fold bag in half, with the un-fringed (hemmed) edge about 1" below the top of the bag.
  • Sew the stamped image on the front side of the bag, adjusting to fit.
  • After the material with the image has been sewn on the bag, sew up the sides of the bag.
  • Fill the bag with dried lavender.
  • Fold over the top edge of the bag and sew on the buttons to close the bag.

Large Bag:

  • The large bag is 12 3/4" long by 4 1/2" wide.
  • The piece for the stamp image is 3 1/5" long by 3 1/4" wide.
  • Follow the small bag assembly instructions.
