I'm a visual person - just love color and detail. I clearly remember when I was six, holding that first box of 64 colored crayons. My creative philosophy - color sets the mood, detail delights the eye. Three layers of paper? Great! Wire, teeny brads, yarn? Really fun! A little treasure to share? Priceless!

For the past few years, I have enjoyed keeping the scale small by actively trading artist trading cards and teaching ATC (artist trading card) classes at A Small Cleverness, in Orange Park, Florida. I've been featuring Lockhart Stamp Company stamps in my ATC classes - adding embossing transparencies for glass, wire for handles on a bucket, suede paper flowers. I am definitely a fan!

Creating the Card

The bug is caught in behind a glass-like acetate barrier, lifted above the bug image with foam tape under the cork. Clear features always have that challenge of hiding the adhesive, so that the cork stopper is both cute and helpful. The bug eyes are the half dome stick-on pearls, dotted with a Sharpie©. You can make those eyes any color you want - I just went with the black. There are Stickles© on the wings, and the wings are folded a bit to give some dimension. He was washed down with a twinkling water type paint so he shimmers a bit. A handy way to add a sentiment is by hanging a label on top of the jar.

Card detail showing the acetate representing the bottle glass and half dome stick-on pearls, accented with a Sharpie© to accentuate the eyes. Adding the label to the jar with a piece of yarn. Notice how the stopper changes color under the acetate "glass".
Chair   Violets

Scrap paper and suede paper work well to add a soft dimension and interest to this comfy chair. Suede paper with little violets, touches of marker to add orange and with little violet Stickles© to make this teacup of flowers extra girlie.
Ducks in a row
ducks
I love ducks. I have a large collection of carved ducks that my husband made over the years. I doubled up on the ducks so that they are all over the place.

Scraps of suede paper for geranium leaves, crackle paint for texture on the container and liquid pearls and liquid applique for the flowers. Embossed metallic paper for the bucket with a small brad and wire to form the handle.

We want to thank Nina for taking the time to share her great card designs with us. If you are interested in learning more about ATC (artist trading card) classes, or holding your own ATC class, please contact your local store for more information.

Thanks,
Karen and Scott
